A utxo node operates under a total block ordering, so it can performing this biding immediately as blocks populate their previous outputs. But a node that stores the chain as full blocks cannot obtain the size advantage. And one that requires total ordering cannot obtain the concurrency advantage. So just some engineering magic to get the best of both worlds.
